A hint of maple flavor and a delicate sweetness make even a dull sausage something special.
3 tablespoons butter
2 onions, thinly sliced
4 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 pound sausages
1/4 cup maple syrup
Set oven to 350 degrees F.
Sauté onion and apple in butter in a large frying pan until lightly browned. Remove to a shallow baking dish.
In the same pan brown the sausages well on all sides. Lay them on top of the onions and apples and pour maple syrup over the top. Bake about 30 minutes.
Wonderful served with hot corn bread or Home Fries.
Serves 4.
Home Fries:
Boil potatoes with peel (1 per person) until tender. Peel and slice. Melt butter in frying pan over medium heat. Toss in potatoes and some chopped onion (or green onions or chives). Sprinkle with paprika. Cook, turning frequently, until nicely browned on both sides. Salt and pepper to taste.
