4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup apple cider
4 Granny Smith apples
1/2 cup walnuts
1/2 cup apple cider
1 (18.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup walnuts
6 tablespoons butter
1 egg
Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
Place butter, sugar and apple cider in the 12-inch Family Skillet over medium heat. Bring to a slight boil, around 10 minutes Remove the skillet from heat.
Use the APCS to peel, core and thinly slice the apples. Arrange the apples in the pan, over the caramel mixture. Place the skillet over medium-high heat. Boil about 10 minutes, until the sugar mixture becomes caramel colored. Remove from heat. Rearrange apples, if necessary to make a pretty design.
Coarsely chop the walnuts with the Food Chopper, sprinkle between apple wedges.
In 2-quart Batter Bowl, place cake mix and 6 tablespoon of butter. Blend with pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Use the Cheese Grater to finely grate walnuts into the cake mix. Add the apple cider and egg. Stir until the mixture is just moistened (batter will be thick). Spoon batter over apple mixture. Bake 35 to 40 minutes. Cool 10 minutes (no longer!). Invert onto serving plate.
