Hot Cocoa Bombs recipe

Prep: 45 min | Yield: 6 bombs

Equipment

Hot Chocolate

  • 2 1/2 inch silicone sphere or heart-shaped molds, 12 wells total

Hot Cocoa Bombs

  • 4 cups + 3 tablespoons Nestlé® Toll House® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels, divided
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening, divided
  • 3/4 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup Nestlé® Toll House® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Morsels or other morsels of choice
  • 6 tablespoons hot chocolate mix
  • 1 tablespoon Valentine's Day sprinkles* (optional)

Instructions

  1. Microwave 2 cups semi-sweet morsels and 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening in medium, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power for 1 minute; stir. The morsels may retain some of their original shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring just until smooth. Paint the chocolate into the silicone molds to create a thin layer on the insides. Remove excess chocolate. Repeat process with 2 cups semi-sweet morsels and remaining 2 tablespoons shortening and then repeat process with remaining molds. Place molds into refrigerator to set.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine mini marshmallows, 1/4 cup mini morsels, hot chocolate mix and sprinkles. Remove molds from the refrigerator and then gently remove chocolate half spheres from molds, being careful not to have wet hands. Place half spheres on a sheet of parchment or clean work surface. Fill 6 of the half spheres with the marshmallow mixture.
  3. Using a shallow microwave-safe bowl, melt remaining 3 tablespoons semi-sweet morsels in microwave according to package instructions. Pipe the melted morsels onto the lip/edge of one of the empty half spheres. You can also use a spoon to delicately place the melted morsels onto the edge. Top one of the filled half spheres with this one to create a full sphere. Repeat with remaining half spheres. Let set and refrigerate before using.
  4. Place one bomb into a mug of hot milk and stir to create hot chocolate.
