Apple Spice Custard Cake
Ingredients
- 1 (18.25 ounce) box spice cake mix*
- 2 medium size all-purpose apples, pared, cored and finely chopped
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream (room temperature)
- 1/4 cup ReaLemon lemon juice from concentrate
- Ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease well and flour a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
- Prepare cake mix as package directs; stir in apples. Pour into prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean.
- Meanwhile, in medium bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk, sour cream and ReaLemon juice.
- Remove cake from oven; spread cream mixture over top.
- Return to oven; bake 10 minutes longer or until set.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon. Let cool.
- Garnish as desired.
- Refrigerate leftovers.
Notes
* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
