Be prepared to taste an unusual dessert. These cookies are quick to make and easy to serve. Read the label when buying chocolate chips, as many brands contain milk.
2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup margarine
1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons molasses
2 or 3 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
1/2 cup chopped nuts
6 ounces (1 cup) chocolate chips
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Sift dry ingredients and set aside.
Cream margarine and sugar. Beat in egg, vanilla extract and molasses. Mash bananas and add alternately with the sifted dry ingredients. Beat well, scraping side of bowl with spatula. Fold in nuts and chocolate chips. Spread batter in prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until done. Cool on a rack for about 10 minutes. Cut into bars.
