1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
40 caramels, quartered
9 cups baking apples, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup orange juice
Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; add caramels and stir to coat.
In a separate bowl, toss apples with orange juice. Stir in caramel mixture and spread into a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Add topping.
Topping
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons butter
2/3 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
Combine sugar and flour in a small bowl; cut in butter until crumbly. Add oats and walnuts; sprinkle over apples. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 40 minutes or until apples are tender.
Makes 16 to 20 servings.
