Potpourri Pie

4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 teaspoon alum
1 1/2 cups water

Mix dough ingredients, then roll to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut strips 1/2-inch wide.

Place a terra cotta saucer upside down on a cookie sheet; cover the bottom with foil. Weave the strips over the bottom of the saucer as you would put the lattice work on the top of a pie crust. Place another strip around the edge of the crust to join all the strips together. Bake at 250 degrees F for 2 hours.

Remove from oven and let cool completely. Remove the lattice very carefully from the saucer, then remove the foil. Turn the saucer right side up and fill with potpourri. Glue the lattice on top of the saucer. Decorate the top of the pie with dried apple slices, cinnamon sticks, etc.
