Mushrooms

Andrew writes~ I have mushrooms growing in my grass. How do I get rid of them?

A. This is a very common problem with lawns and garden beds. These fungi will sprout from airborne spores wherever there is ample water. Shop at your local garden supply center for a lawn fungicide to apply monthly to all infected areas and nearby clean patches, too, as once they grow, they produce spores rapidly which will spread to other areas of your lawn and garden. If a neighbor has them visible, ask if you may treat theirs also, as your applications will do little good if there remains a constant nearby threat. Some lawn products combine fertilizers with fungicides so one application has dual purposes.
