Apple-Cheddar Crisp

Ingredients

Crisp

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 6 cups peeled, sliced baking apples (about 5 large apples)

Topping

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup uncooked oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a large bowl; mix well.
  2. Add apples; toss to coat well.
  3. Spoon into an 8 inch square glass baking dish.
  4. For the topping, mix 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1/3 cup flour, oats and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  5. Cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture is crumbly.
  6. Stir in walnuts.
  7. Sprinkle evenly over apple mixture in pan.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F oven for 45 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden-brown.
  9. Top with cheese; let stand for 30 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm or at room temperature.
