Girl Scout Dump Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 (18.25 ounce) boxes white or yellow cake mix*
  • 3 (29 ounce) cans fruit cocktail or other canned fruit
  • 3/4 pound butter

Instructions

  1. Pour fruit into cast iron Dutch oven.
  2. Sprinkle dry cake mix over fruit.
  3. Dot butter on top of cake mix.
  4. Cover tightly, set in coals of campfire, putting coals on lid also, and let cook until cake is lightly browned. Rotate Dutch oven one quarter turn every 15 minutes for even cooking, especially if the active fire is only on one side of the Dutch oven.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe.In this case, use 12 tablespoons for two boxes.

Recipe can be halved easily.
