Chocolate River Bars

Yield: 32 bars

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Mix, butter, brown sugar and sugar and beat until fluffy.
  2. Add egg and extract and beat well.
  3. Stir together flour, soda and salt. Mix into butter mixture beating well.
  4. Spread into a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over top of batter.
  6. Place in oven at 350 degrees F for 2 minutes just until chocolate softens.
  7. With a table knife, swirl the melted chocolate pieces into the batter.
  8. Return the pan to the oven and bake 12 to 15 minutes more until golden.
  9. Cool.
  10. Cut into 32 bars.
