Chocolate Cherries Jubilee with Cherry Rum Sauce

Ingredients

Base

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) box chocolate fudge cake mix*
  • Sugar cubes

Cherry Rum Sauce

  • 1 cup cherry pie filling (canned)
  • 1/4 cup rum or 2 tablespoons rum flavoring

Instructions

Base

  1. Bake cupcakes as directed on cake mix.
  2. In a small bowl, soak sugar cubes in warm rum.
  3. Remove paper baking cups.
  4. Pour Cherry Rum Sauce over cupcakes.
  5. Place a sugar cube on each. Ignite immediately.

Cherry Rum Sauce

  1. In a saucepan heat cherry pie filling.
  2. Remove from heat; stir in rum or rum flavoring.

Notes

* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
