Pumpkin Won Tons with Caramel Dip
Pumpkin Won Tons are deep fried and served with a tasty caramel dip.
Ingredients
Caramel Dip
- 12 caramels squares, unwrapped
- 1 teaspoon water
- 1/2 cup sour cream*
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pumpkin Won Tons
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened*
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon orange zest
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 20 won ton wrappers
- 1 egg white, lightly beaten
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar
Instructions
Caramel Dip
- Microwave caramels and water in medium microwaveable bowl on HIGH for 30 seconds. Stir until caramels are completely melted.
- Cool for 2 minutes.
- Stir in sour cream and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Refrigerate until ready to use.
Pumpkin Won Tons
- Whisk cream cheese, pumpkin, brown sugar, flour, orange zest and cinnamon until blended.
- Spoon about 2 teaspoons onto center of each won ton wrapper. Moisten edges with egg white and fold diagonally in half. Pinch edges together tightly to seal. For a nice touch, use a pastry wheel to crimp edges.
- Heat oil in large saucepan on medium-high heat to 350 degrees F.
- Add won tons, in batches of 3 or 4 pastries. Depending on your oil temperature, these may cook really fast. Watch the pastries closely as they may cook in 2 to 3 minutes 30 seconds. You will want to flip them once and pull them out when they are evenly browned.
- Drain. Let cool.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Serve with Caramel Dip.
Notes
* You may use low fat sour cream and low fat cream cheese, if desired.
