Pumpkin Won Tons with Caramel Dip

Ingredients

Caramel Dip

  • 12 caramels squares, unwrapped
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1/2 cup sour cream*
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pumpkin Won Tons

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened*
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 20 won ton wrappers
  • 1 egg white, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar

Instructions

Caramel Dip

  1. Microwave caramels and water in medium microwaveable bowl on HIGH for 30 seconds. Stir until caramels are completely melted.
  2. Cool for 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in sour cream and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  4. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Pumpkin Won Tons

  1. Whisk cream cheese, pumpkin, brown sugar, flour, orange zest and cinnamon until blended.
  2. Spoon about 2 teaspoons onto center of each won ton wrapper. Moisten edges with egg white and fold diagonally in half. Pinch edges together tightly to seal. For a nice touch, use a pastry wheel to crimp edges.
  3. Heat oil in large saucepan on medium-high heat to 350 degrees F.
  4. Add won tons, in batches of 3 or 4 pastries. Depending on your oil temperature, these may cook really fast. Watch the pastries closely as they may cook in 2 to 3 minutes 30 seconds. You will want to flip them once and pull them out when they are evenly browned.
  5. Drain. Let cool.
  6. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  7. Serve with Caramel Dip.

Notes

* You may use low fat sour cream and low fat cream cheese, if desired.
