Black Walnut Cookies
Black Walnut Cookies is a recipe from Grandmother Frieda Louise Becker-Roth.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup lard (or shortening)
- 1/3 cup oleo (margarine) or butter
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons thick cream or 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups chopped walnuts
- Powdered sugar, sifted
Instructions
- Heat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Cream lard and butter.
- Add powdered sugar and cream, mixing until light.
- Add vanilla extract, stirring well.
- Sift flour and baking soda together. Add walnuts, and add to creamed mixture.
- Shape into small balls.
- Bake until delicate brown, about 20 to 30 minutes.
- As soon as balls are cool enough, roll in powdered sugar.
