Apple Scones

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup minced apples
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 450 degrees F. Grease an 8 x 12 inch baking pan.
  2. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in the butter. Add sugar and apples. Mix in the egg and milk to make a soft dough. Knead until ingredients are well-mixed.
  3. Spread in prepared pan, and bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Cut into 2 inch squares when done. Split each square diagonally. Butter. Dust the tops thickly with granulated sugar.
  5. Serve warm.
