German Chocolate Cheesecake
Ingredients
Cheesecake
- 1 (18.25 ounce) box German chocolate cake mix*
- 2/3 cup shredded coconut
- 1/3 cup soft butter
- 3 eggs
- 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
Sour Cream Frosting
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Mix cake mix, coconut, butter and 1 egg and put into bottom of a 12 x 9 inch ungreased pan.
- Beat cream cheese with remaining 2 eggs, vanilla extract and sugar until smooth. Spread over the cake mix in pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Remove from oven and spread Sour Cream Frosting over top. Allow cake to cool.
- Refrigerate at least 8 hours before cutting.
- Add sugar and vanilla extract to sour cream and stir until sugar is dissolved.
Notes
* 18.25 ounce boxes of cake mix have been replaced by 16.5 ounce and 15.25 ounce boxes. To compensate for the volume loss in a 16 ounce box, whisk 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour into the dry cake mix before proceeding with the recipe. To compensate for the volume loss in a 15.25 ounce box, add 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder.
