Black Walnut Sheet Cake
A warm chocolaty delight is just the thing to stave off the snow and cold. Add a cup of coffee or marshmallow-laden hot chocolate and this recipe will make the perfect cozy evening with the family, watching the snow fall.
Ingredients
Cake
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
Icing
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
- 6 tablespoons buttermilk
- 1 cup Hammons Black Walnuts
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 (16 ounce) box powdered sugar
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cake
- Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
- Melt butter and mix with cocoa and water. Bring to a rapid boil and pour over dry ingredients.
- Add buttermilk and eggs.
- Bake in 15 x 10 inch jellyroll pan for 15 to 20 minutes.
Icing
- Melt butter, cocoa and buttermilk. Bring to a boil and add powdered sugar and black walnuts. Spread while cake is hot.
