Maple Syrup Butter Tart Squares
If you love butter tarts, you will love these easy-to-prepare butter tart squares.
Bake: 45 min | Yield: 1 (8 inch) square pan
Ingredients
Base
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
Topping
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup pecan halves*
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Instructions
Base
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8 inch square baking pan.
- Rub the flour, sugar and butter together in bowl, mix well and press firmly into prepared baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven and set aside.
Topping
- Increase oven temperature to 450 degrees F.
- Combine sugar and syrup in a saucepan. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Let cool, then pour over the beaten eggs.
- Add the remaining ingredients, stirring well.
- Pour over the partially baked dough and bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.
- Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and continue to bake for another 25 to 30 minutes.
- Cool and cut into squares.
Notes
* Walnuts may be substituted for the pecans.
