Maple Syrup Butter Tart Squares

Maple Syrup Butter Tart Squares recipe

Bake: 45 min | Yield: 1 (8 inch) square pan

Ingredients

Base

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter

Topping

  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup pecan halves*
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

Base

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8 inch square baking pan.
  2. Rub the flour, sugar and butter together in bowl, mix well and press firmly into prepared baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from oven and set aside.

Topping

  1. Increase oven temperature to 450 degrees F.
  2. Combine sugar and syrup in a saucepan. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Let cool, then pour over the beaten eggs.
  4. Add the remaining ingredients, stirring well.
  5. Pour over the partially baked dough and bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and continue to bake for another 25 to 30 minutes.
  7. Cool and cut into squares.

Notes

* Walnuts may be substituted for the pecans.
