Affogato

One of the most delightful Italian desserts! Affogato means "drowned" in Italian. In this case, gelato is "drowned" in espresso and flavored syrup. The flavor combinations are almost endless.

Affogato recipe

Yield: one serving

Ingredients

  • 2 or 3 small scoops or 1 large scoop coffee, chocolate or vanilla gelato
  • 1 to 2 shots espresso or 3 tablespoons strong brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons Torani Hazelnut, Butter Pecan, Caramel or French Toast Syrup

Instructions

  1. Place gelato in a cup.
  2. Pour in a shot of espresso or 3 tablespoons strong brewed coffee.
  3. Pour syrup over the top, then serve.

Notes

Use any flavor syrup desired, as long as it is compatible with the gelato flavor and with espresso or coffee.

Ice cream may be used instead of gelato. That is perfectly fine, but it is not the Italian way.

You can use other brands of syrup, but I have found that Torani is the best.
